If you have concerns regarding your builder’s standard of work, there are steps you can take to resolve the issue.
Can I sue my builder? is a common question. The short answer is, YES, you can take a builder to the small claims court, but let’s take a few steps back. Suing your builder should be your final option. The first option is a dispute resolution approach. Impel Legal can help with this. Click here to contact the paralegal at Impel Legal.
There would be an agreement in place between you and the builder to supply specific services; you are protected by various laws, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which applies to works carried out by all types of traders, including builders, plumbers, decorators and electricians. The contract may be written, verbal or even in the quote if that is put in writing.
In simple terms, and for example, you asked the builder to, say, build an extension on the back of your house, including insulation, plumbing, electrical work, doors and windows. You paid a large sum for materials; he started the work but then disappeared. When you phoned him several times, he made excuses and false promises. Does this sound familiar?
The law is on your side; Impel Legal is on your side. However, even with UK consumer protection laws in place, the whole situation can be highly stressful and affect you, your relationships, work and life in general.
